We’re in the midst of rolling out some changes to our site. It’s not so much a redesign, as a re-align. Having lived with this version of the site for a month or so now, I recognized that there were some areas that were underperforming, and some areas that looked unfinished (they were).
Here’s what we’ve done so far:
We rolled out the new footer and blog templates today. Both become info-heavy, with lots of links to important content elsewhere on the site. Each also has a place to subscribe to the site’s feed. The individual blog articles, or permalink pages, now get a snapshot of the author.
To be honest, I saw this used somewhere recently, but I can’t for the life of me remember where (if you know, please let me know in the comments). It struck me as a brilliant idea. I made a weird relational shift when I saw the picture of the guy who wrote it. The voice of the article became much more personal. Anyhoo, I quite like the effect. I would love to hear what you think.
Other changes include a reworking of the work section of the site, the addition of an about us section, and a bunch of other little stuff.
A redesigned home page is coming tomorrow. Can you feel the energy flowing around here? I haven’t been this pumped up about blogging in ages. Whoo hoo! It’s fun again!
You’ve been at this blogging thing for a while now. The initial surge of WOO HOO has worn off. You survived the inevitable downward part of the enthusiasm cycle that follows that first massive high. And you’re still keeping at it, maybe even with renewed passion and energy. Welcome, you’re now a middle aged blogger!
