Design re-align: rolling out some changes

Peter F, 25 January, 2007 0 Comments

We’re in the midst of rolling out some changes to our site. It’s not so much a redesign, as a re-align.
Having lived with this version of the site for a month or so now, I
recognized that there were some areas that were underperforming, and
some areas that looked unfinished (they were).

Here’s what we’ve done so far:

We
rolled out the new footer and blog templates today. Both become
info-heavy, with lots of links to important content elsewhere on the
site. Each also has a place to subscribe to the site’s feed. The
individual blog articles, or permalink pages, now get a snapshot of the
author.

To
be honest, I saw this used somewhere recently, but I can’t for the life
of me remember where (if you know, please let me know in the comments).
It struck me as a brilliant idea. I made a weird relational shift when I
saw the picture of the guy who wrote it. The voice of the article
became much more personal. Anyhoo, I quite like the effect. I would love
to hear what you think.

Other changes include a reworking of the work section of the site, the addition of an about us section, and a bunch of other little stuff.

A redesigned home page is coming tomorrow. Can you feel the energy
flowing around here? I haven’t been this pumped up about blogging in
ages. Whoo hoo! It’s fun again!
